Nerding Out

Cheers to 2021 everybody, I'm hoping the best for each and everyone of y'all.

Since my last blog post i don't have all that much to report on, but I was able to complete a few projects before sitting down and writing this post. Over the holidays I spent a good amount of my free time traveling around and visiting family, Like you do. and it's easy to say that it was refreshing to take a little break from everything for a few weeks. I think it was very much needed. I came back home with a refreshed mindset on what projects to start tackling next.

My biggest accomplishment, as far as artwork goes, was finishing a couple of projects for Black Heath Meadery. I was amazed when I looked at my time stamp and saw that I spent over 24 active hours working on the digital drawing alone. I'm pretty sure that's the longest I've worked on a digital drawing thus far, and I'm really proud of myself for sticking it out to the end. I'm also very pleased with how the prints themselves turned out. For a run of 30 they all came out very consistent, and while I was printing them it all just ran like clockwork. For this being my first run in a couple of months that was a very nice feeling to have.

I have prints available both on my online shop and at Black Heath if you're interested.

In addition to these larger prints I also printed 100 greeting cards. It was the first time I'd ever printed greeting cards. I think the image translated very nicely to the smaller size, and after completing them I definitely had some gears turning with some ideas for the future designs.

Now that I have these projects out of the way it opens up some room for my next printing projects. I have a couple ideas in the works, just need to spend the time drawing them out and getting them print ready. More on that some other time.

The other big win of the month was releasing a new song, An Island Dream.

now streaming on all major platforms as well as my Bandcamp!

This song was super fun to make. I used some new techniques in Ableton to manipulate a sample from my previous song, An Island Theme, and twisted it all around to create this dream like dance. I definitely plan on using some similar themes in future projects, but for now I need to take things one step at a time and focus on my debut album which is more centered around live instruments and vocals. I've still got a good ways to go to make this debut album a reality, but I have been diligently chipping away at it and I think it's safe to say that I can at least have some singles released this spring!

Whelp, that's I really all I have as far as completed projects. Aside from working on these I've been spending a lot of time just nerding out at home. I recently picked up my Gameboy SP in hopes to finally get through a game that I've never been able to complete, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. so far I've been able to get pretty far without the need of a walkthrough, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I won't need to use that crutch this go around.

I've also been spending a lot of time nerding out on Twitter, scouring around and joining more art, crypto, and music communities. For whatever that's worth ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

a friend of mine also introduced me to Discord, I have no idea what to do on Discord, but it seems like there's a wealth of information to be learned in some of those communities. If you have an acct and wouldn't mind showing me around a little bit I would greatly appreciate it, you can friend me @davideatin

In other news my car broke down (boo) and it's looking like I'm going to be carless for the foreseeable future (yuck). But luckily my partner, Hannah, is letting me use hers when I need it (yay) so it ain't all that bad, and I'll get some wheels when the time is right.

Finally, the time has come for me to cut off my hair. After growing it out for more than half of a decade I feel it's time for a change. I'm sure I'll miss it from time to time, but I certainly won't miss having it get caught in my zipper everytime I zip up my jacket.

I can feel a new chapter opening in my life, although there is some uncertainty about what It may bring, i'm fairly confident that It can only bring something better than what has happened in the past handful of years. Sure there's going to be some more growing pains along the way. But I feel the worst has already come and gone and I'm ready to welcome these new challenge with open arms.

Until next time, be well, be safe out there, and let's all look forward to what this year will offer for us. Sure things may not be back to normal anytime soon. But at least we're over the hump!

Peace Y'all
